Day 1: Kigali

As you walk out of the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our smiling representative, your personal driver guide and transfer to the hotel in Kigali.

Day 2: Akagera National Park

Have early breakfast and depart to Akagera national Park, the only savannah park in Rwanda and the only place where game viewing safaris are possible.

Akagera National Park is a classic savannah reserve that has undergone an ambitious recent rehabilitation programme to become a fully-fledged Big Five Safari destination. The park comprises of a chain of low grassy mountains that slope down to a tract of undulating most savannah hammed in by an extensive wetland comprising a dozen lakes, extensive papyrus swamps and a labyrinth of channel fed by the meandering Akagera River.

When you arrive in the park, you will check in at your lodge for lunch and short rest. Later go for an afternoon game drive in the park. Drive across the open tracking rhions, giraffes and lions among others. Return to the lodge around 6.30 am for tea or coffee, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3-4: Akagera National Park

Have these two days for exploring Akagera National Park on thrilling game drives. A wildlife sighting is always unpredictable which makes a game drive so exciting. Lookout for tracks, listening for alarm calls and be on the alert for nearby predators. There is so much to see in Akagera, some of the animals to lookout for include lion, leopards, towering giraffes, rhinos, elands among others.

Day 5: Akagera – Volcanoes National Park

Today, have an early departure to the mountainous region and gorilla territory – Volcanoes National Park. You will arrive at the lodge late afternoon and have time to freshen up before dinner.

This is a long day of driving through the wonderful countryside; including a lunch stop in Kigali City, it is possible to organize a helicopter transfer at an extra cost (weather permitting).

Protecting the Rwandan sector of the Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park is the best place to do gorilla trekking is best known as the place where Dian Fossey launched her pioneering study of mountain gorillas in the wild in 1966. With a dozen of habituated gorilla families for which a total of 96 tracking permits issued on a daily, Volcanoes National Park offers the best gorilla trekking experience.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking

This morning you depart early to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. Once you are briefed on the gorilla family you are to trek in groups of 8, you will walk through the tropical rain forest in search of the mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous. You will find the gorillas doing their daily chores of feeding their young ones, climbing trees and others just relaxing. You have about 1 hour with the gorillas, and then trek back to the park headquarters.

Transfer back to the lodge in time for late lunch and afternoon at leisure to relax. You can hike around the lodge or go for a cultural experience at the Gorilla Guardian’s Village. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: End of the Safari

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and checkout. Road transfer to Kigali City where you will have a short Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Museum Centre and the local market centres. Later your guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home.
