Detailed itinerary of 6 Days Rwanda Primate Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transfer you to your already booked hotel in Kigali. If you arrive early, you will have a Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kandt Museum and the Craft Market.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park enjoying the beautiful scenery. Nyungwe Forest is located in Southern Rwanda en route to Burundi and some areas of Congo. Along the way you will have a stop in Nyanza before proceeding to Huye for a tour to the Ethnographic Museum, visit the Kings Palace Museum which is an alternative to Ethnographic Museum. Both museums share Rwanda’s cultural history but the Ethnographic Museum has more items and wide coverage.
Arrive in Nyungwe Forest later in that evening, head to your lodge for check in and dinner.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking – Canopy Walk
Today is for chimpanzee trekking, waking up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park. Join other visitors at the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, you will be assigned either Uwinka Trail head or Cyamudongo Trail head. A ranger guide will share chimpanzee trekking tips for you while in the forest.
Then enter into the forest looking for chimpanzees, the trek takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzee family. You are allowed to spend only one hour with as they play and feed. Other primate species to expect to see include Ruwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, silver monkey, grey cheeked mangabeys and several bird species.
In the afternoon, take the canopy walk trail from the Uwinka Trail Head. Enjoy the views of the forest for the high suspended forest.
Overnight at Nyungwe Forest House
Day 4: Colobus Monkey Trekking – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, return to Nyungwe Forest for Colobus monkey tracking. Just like chimpanzee trekking, you will have a briefing from the community guide and later visit the forest. You are allowed one hour of watching the Colobus Monkeys as they feed, play and groom each other.
After this experience, leave for Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Region. Enjoy the beautiful winding roads and scenery of a thousand hills driving along Lake Kivu. Arrive at your hotel later that evening.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking
Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park for gorilla trekking which is a highlight on this 6 Days Rwanda Primate Safari. On this experience you will come face to face with the gentle giants in their natural habitat which is one of the incredible wildlife experience.
Join other trekkers at the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking rules and regulations, in groups of 8 people head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. You are permitted one hour of being in the presence of mountain gorillas watching them play on tree branches, pick fruits and groom each other.
After the Rwanda gorilla trekking experience, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (Ibyi’wacu Village). Learn about the Rwandan culture and engage in some of the activities.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking – Departure
Wake up early for breakfast and return to the park this time for golden monkey trekking. After the briefing from the ranger guides, drive to the starting point and leave for the trek. Just like gorillas, you are allowed one hour in the presence of the golden monkeys. These primates are more active than gorillas and will give you a more fulfilling experience.
After this fascinating experience, return to the lodge to freshen up, have lunch and then leave for Kigali for your return flight home.
