Detailed itinerary of 6 Days Rwanda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Tour
Day 1: Arrival, Kigali City
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative – your private driver-guide, after a briefing session you will drive to Kigali City. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site where you will learn about the horrific massive killings, the Kimiroko Market and the Craft Centre.
Have dinner and stay overnight at the hotel in Kigali City.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Enjoy a delicious breakfast, meet your driver-guide and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park driving through Rwanda’s most beautiful country side dominated by green hills and calming nature scenery. This drive is about 5 hour’s drive with visit to the local markets, the traditional palace in Nyanza.
Continue to Butare where you will visit the Botanical Gardens and the Cultural Museum, drive through the stunning green fields scattered across the hillside and local communities around the park.
When you arrive in the park, you will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest
Have an early breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing on the chimpanzee tracking activity, a ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while tracking chimpanzees. After registration, you will be assigned chimpanzee group to trek and head into the forest looking for chimpanzees.
Chimpanzees are very mobile creatures, they keep moving and making noises as they jump from one tree branch to another. Chimpanzee trekking activity takes approximately 2-6 hours of hiking through the forests of Nyungwe, when you locate the chimpanzees you are allowed to stay only for one hour in their presence watching them go on with their life in the forest and take pictures.
Trek back to the park’s headquarters to pick your chimpanzee trekking certificates and then head to the lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a canopy walk on a high suspended walkway above the forests of Nyungwe Forest. On the walk you will enjoy scenic views of the forests, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and many birds.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Volcanoes National Park – the most popular tourist destination in Rwanda and home to the endangered mountain gorillas. It is a drive of approximately 5 hours and along the way you will have en-route lunch. Arrive in the evening, check-in at your lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forests looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas, you are allowed to spend only on hour in their presence observing them go on with their life in the misty forests.
After this memorable experience, you will trek back to the park’s headquarters to pick your gorilla trekking certificates and then head back to the lodge and spend the rest of the day at relaxation at the lodge. Have dinner and stay overnight.

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge and drive back to Kigali City for drop off either at the hotel or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
