The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most breathtaking wildlife sights nature has to offer, about 2.5 million wildebeests, zebras and antelopes follow the rains between the lush grasslands of Masai Mara and the predator studied plains of The Serengeti.

The spectacular river crossings usually take place between mid-July and late October, the wildebeests are forced to cross the Mara River between Kenya and Tanzania. This is a continuous cycle that happens every year. The animals constantly move across huge distances in search of fresh and green pastures.

River crossings at Kogatende start to occur every day in August as the mega herd settles into the area. For August, September and October, game viewing is superb here, with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rain and subsequent fresh grass. It is not uncommon to see different herds crossing in different directions on the same day.

The Great Migration is the largest herd movement of animals on the planet, with up to 1,000 animals per square kilometer, the great columns of wildebeests can be seen from space.
